The Voice UK

I am obsessed with E! news, it takes over my Sky+ and I have the biggest girl crush on Catt Sadler. So thanks to daily watching due to unemployment last year, I discovered The Voice, America’s talent show where it is all about, you guessed it, the voice! If you haven’t seen it (where have you been?) hopefuls take to the stage and sing their hearts out, hoping for one of the judges to turn their chair around (judges can’t see the singers at first as this is a talent show not based on appearance). It proved such a success in the States that the BBC fixed up and bought the rights to make an English version, YAY!!

I think The Voice is amazing, it’s refreshing to have really good singers on a show and not ones that are there just because they provide good entertainment (Jedward anyone?). Taking on the judging role for us is the legend that is Tom Jones, Jessie J, and Danny O’Donoghue. An interesting mix, personally I don’t see why is a judge. Yes he writes good tunes and knows the right people but he’s a bit too friendly with auto-tune for my liking. I wonder if he even knows how to do an inflection or trill. Danny (The Script) has had many people talking wondering why he was chosen. I think he’s a good choice, he has a beautiful voice and has written some of my favourite songs. I have every faith that he will turn people’s opinions around once the show starts.

I will most certainly be watching when it comes to our TV screens March 24. It has a lot of hype to live up too and I do hope it doesn’t disappoint.

‘The Avengers’

Just wanted to share the first full trailer for Marvel and Disney film – ‘The Avengers‘. Really looking forward to this, it looks epic! With the all-star cast (Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson) this is one of the most hotly anticipated releases of 2012.

The Oscars- 2012 Winners

The highly respected Oscar

The Oscars are quite possibly my favourite awards, not only because everyone is beautifully dressed (OK some people do it get very wrong, but the majority have good stylists) but because it is probably the highest accolade you can receive as an actor. Now I admit I don’t care much about who wins for ‘Best Cinematography’ or ‘Best Sound mixing’, for me it is all about ‘Best Actress’, ‘Best Actor’ and the supporting roles (perhaps ‘Best Picture’ also). So if you happened to miss the awards (most people were curled up asleep in bed) then allow me to share some of the winners with you.

Oscars red carpet 2012

Here are my best dressed at this years Oscars. An unusual amount of white/silver on the red carpet but still lots of pastel colours doing the rounds. Rooney Mara and Milla Jovovich are by far my top two.

Michelle Williams looking divine in a red Louis Vuitton peplum gown

Milla Jovovich in silver-white Elie Saab. Absolutely stunning!

Jessica Chastian in Alexander McQueen (bespoke) hand embroidered gold bullion and metal thread.

Giuliana Rancic in Basil Soda.

Jonah Hill looking very trim in his suit

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli. She has fixed up so much over the last two years.

J.Lo in a very daring Zuhair Murad art deco gown

Rooney Mara changing up her usual choice of black with a beautiful white Givenchy Haute Couture gown. J'adore her.

Natalie Portman in vintage Christian Dior Couture from Spring 1954. Interesting choice for the Oscars, I would get rid of the necklace though.

Gwyneth Paltrow looking fabulous in Tom Ford (he is a genius)

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. Love the gold detailing and the black long train but unsure about the cut of the top half

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji & Neil Lane- Lovely!

Oxfam Get-together Campaign

So today was a very exciting day for me, I spent it in a room filled with beautiful women (and one male sex addict). I was at a jumble sale, in a church in Kings Cross, parting with my cash to help raise money and celebrate International Women’s Day (coming up on the 8th March).

So who were these women I hear you ask, well the ‘creators’ were Dawn Porter and Gemma Cairney. They managed to get donations from the likes of Fearne Cotton, Jimmy Carr, Lauren Laverne and Claudia Winkleman. What was equally impressive were the celebrities who showed up to run their own ‘stalls’, Kate Nash, Cherry Healey and Grace Woodward. Dawn and Gemma each had their own section and Dawn’s finance, (now a Hollywood star) Chris O’Dowd came down to show his woman some support. Oh and the cakes, my God there were so many cakes! I actually had to back away and distract myself or I would have ransacked the lot. There was also a very friendly man from Bleach London who was colourfully spraying stencils into people’s hair (I refrained from this as he was too close to the cake stand and I didn’t trust myself).

I was lucky to get in early and have a sneak preview thanks to Amy who runs Sink The Pink club nights with her partner in crime Glyn. They were also selling goodies ranging from old school CD’s to ridiculously cheap accessories. There were so many clothes and shoes it was enough to rival Carrie Bradshaw‘s wardrobe. Beautiful vintage and designer pieces going for as little as £8!!!! Absolute bargains. I was walking around in a daze for about twenty minutes, not quite believing what I was seeing. I’m glad I was able to take my pictures when I did, because as soon as those doors opened it was carnage. At one point I was actually stuck between two girls arguing over who should have the royal blue jumpsuit donated by Lauren Laverne, it was the most awkward moment I’ve had for a long time.

As I mentioned earlier there was a sex addict thrown in amongst these hoards of women. I know this because he did actually advertise the fact on a BBC Three documentary a couple of months ago. Yes it was the one and only comedian Jeff Leach, all 6ft plus of him in his black wife-beater covered in tattoos. I have to admit he was looking pretty attractive (it was painfully obvious I thought this when asking for a picture of him, I giggled like a schoolgirl, two awkward moments in the space of an hour!). He was selling his body lots of books and other random bits.

Cherry Healey’s table had to be my favourite shopping point, not only is she extremely beautiful and friendly, she was wearing the most amazing biker jacket and red striped shirt. She also had a ridiculously sexy pair of shoes that my unfortunate large feet just wouldn’t fit into.

So as I mentioned this was all in aid of International Women’s Day as there are 1.3 billion people living in poverty worldwide – more than two-thirds of them are women and girls. Events like this jumble sale raise vital funds to support women around the world. Oxfam are asking women to hold their own get-together events on or around International Women’s Day (remember March 8). As Tesco say, every little helps.

I’m unsure yet how much was raised, but by the looks of the 250 people waiting outside when I left, I have a feeling it’s going to be a pretty sizeable amount.

Some of the Sink The Pink goodies, I'm kicking myself for not buying that t-shirt now

Hairdresser from Bleach London

So many cakes!

The crowd after only 10 minutes of the doors opening, it got much busier than this.

Apologies for blurry picture but this is the crowd outside going halfway down the street

I am going to post about other shows from Milan but I was so impressed by Versace this season, I thought it deserved one all to itself. I absolutely love anything that has a Gothic element, and Donatella showed this in full force. The crucifixes, studded leather, alarmingly tight looking coat-dresses and chain mail (first seen on the Versace runway back in1982), were all on the catwalk. The coats were especially beautiful with flashes of jewel toned colours or all black with appliquéd crucifixes. I’d quite happily rock up to Tesco in any of them, although if I could afford one, I’d more likely be shopping in Waitrose. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rooney Mara decided to wear something from this collection to the Oscars.
